About

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated by why capable people repeat the same painful patterns. Much of what we call personality is adaptation: strategies that once kept us safe and later keep us stuck. I do not think my role is to help people become someone new. It is to help them find who they already are beneath fear, shame, and performance.

The short version of a long education

BA Social Sciences (Psychology), University of South Africa, 2006. BSocSc (Hons) Psychology, University of Cape Town, 2007, a postgraduate degree in South Africa. I also tutored at UCT during my postgraduate year. Gottman Method Couples Therapy, Levels 1 & 2. Discernment Counselling. BWRT practitioner since 2017. Terry Real, Level 1. Registered with the HPCSA; member of PsySSA. Private practice since 2013, with more than twenty years' experience working with families. I started as a play therapist. The children were often carrying something that belonged to the whole family. Helping the parents changed whether the child needed to keep coming. I am a licensed counsellor in South Africa. I am not offering counselling anymore. I offer international relationship and identity coaching.

Faith, without the performance

My father, Francois du Toit, translated the Mirror Bible. That translation shaped what I think God is like, and therefore what I think people are like. I am not a theologian. I have tattoos. I sometimes swear. Whether you are rooted in faith, uncertain, or carrying hurt from religion, the invitation is more grace than shame.

The writing school didn’t predict

I loved writing long before I had any reason to think I was good at it. School certainly didn’t suggest it would become part of my work. Decades later, dyslexia, ADHD and autism gave me a different way of understanding the brain I’d been trying to measure by somebody else’s ruler. And then I wrote anyway. God Speaks Wealth became a bestseller. I’m writing God Speaks Health next. Maybe the things we’re not naturally neat at aren’t always the things we’re not meant to do.
