A Season to Write

Somewhere, there's a child who needs to hear that God's love isn't something they can lose. Somewhere, there's a woman who has spent years putting everyone else first and can't work out why she's so tired. Somewhere, there's someone who needs a picture of God that doesn't leave them afraid, striving, or wondering if they've done enough. I'm writing books and songs for these people. Some are already reaching readers and listeners. Others are finished drafts, waiting for the editing, illustration and publishing that will bring them into the world. I'd love you to help me finish them.

Words that nourish

Hi, Tehilla here. We have more instant food, instant information and instant connection than ever. And so much of it is a packet of two-minute noodles. Quick, convenient, sometimes satisfying. Rarely nourishing. For years I've sat with people who know all the right things to say about love, faith and identity, and still can't believe those things are true for them. People who apologise for having needs. Who say yes when they want to say no. Who think they have to become a better spouse, parent or Christian before they're allowed to rest in being loved. Sometimes a different way of seeing changes everything. A sentence that makes someone stop. A story that gives a child language for God's love. A song that reminds you of something you'd forgotten on the drive home.

That's the work I want to keep making. Words people can come back to, read to their children and play in the kitchen on a hard day.

My name, Tehilla, means song of praise. It took me 43 years to find out the songs wanted out too. Apparently the books weren't enough.

They started singing.

Two things I'm aware of

I see the irony.

  • A book on wealth, and a request for support

I wrote God Speaks Wealth, and here I am asking for financial help. Not because God can't provide. I've come to see that His provision so often comes through people: their generosity, their encouragement and their willingness to share in something they believe matters.

  • A book on health, written while unwell

I've been writing God Speaks Health through a season of being unwell myself. It didn't disqualify the message. It made me need it. The book kept giving me soft landings, over and over, and it made me more certain that it needs to be finished.

This year, I stepped back to write

I reduced much of my coaching work to give these projects real attention. A few generous, unexpected gifts made the first months possible. In that time I:
  • Completed two full drafts of God Speaks Health
  • Finished the manuscript for The Tally, a children's story about prayer
  • Wrote the first draft of Luke for the Mirror Bible for young readers, while my mother, Lydia du Toit, drafted John
  • Released music as Sophia Oakley, including a fourth album
Those gifts were mostly once-off, and they've run their course. Now I'm looking for a way to keep going that lasts longer than a few months.

What your support finishes next

  • Two drafts completeGod Speaks Health

Wholeness through the lens of grace, rooted in God's finished work rather than something we have to keep striving for.

Picture someone sitting in a waiting room, scared of what the doctor will say, reading that their worth was never tied to their body working perfectly.

What's left: a few weeks of focused, intensive work on research and refining, then professional editing and publishing. I'm hoping to publish before Christmas, though being unwell has made that timing uncertain.

  • Luke and John draftedThe Mirror Bible for Young Readers

With my mother, Lydia du Toit, building on my father Francois du Toit's work. Books for children eight and up that introduce a Jesus who welcomes them, without leaving them afraid that God's love depends on their behaviour. I've done this before: Lost and Found: Parables of Jesus, my children's book inspired by the Mirror Bible, reached #1 in Children's Jesus Books on Amazon when it launched.

Picture an eight-year-old reading about Jesus and meeting someone who isn't waiting for them to be good enough.

What's left: editing and publishing. We're hoping to publish John before Christmas, then I'd love to finish more of the Gospels.

  • God Speaks Wealth cover
The one people keep asking forGod Speaks Wealth, updated and translated

An Amazon bestseller that's sold over 1,000 copies and still sells every month without promotion. It's already been translated into several languages.

Picture a reader in Germany or a grandmother in the Karoo reading it in her own language for the first time.

What's left: the updated edition, then Afrikaans and German. Every translation costs money, so how many more languages it reaches depends on support.

Also in the works

  • The Right Mirror, a Sophia Oakley album
4 albums outMusic by Sophia Oakley

Songs about love that doesn't have to be earned, faith with room for questions and grace that actually sounds like grace. The music costs a couple of hundred dollars every month in tools and distribution, before counting the hours of writing and preparing each release.

  • Manuscript writtenThe Tally

A children's book about prayer. So many kids think prayer is a magic wand: say the right words, get the right result, and if it doesn't work, something's wrong with you or with God. Picture a child no longer believing that an unanswered prayer means God is disappointed in them.

Still to do: illustrations, then hours of editing and checking.

  • Taking shapeBooks on relationships and identity

For the woman who says yes to everyone and then wonders why she's resentful. For the person who could finally say "I can't do that this weekend" without spending three days rehearsing an apology. I want coaching-room conversations to reach people who'll never sit across from me.

What it takes

I'm a wife and a mother of two, and I contribute significantly to our household. Coaching has been my main income for years. I love it, and it's emotionally demanding. A full practice leaves very little room for the slow, focused work books need. I've tried doing it all: the full practice, being present for my family, writing late at night, music after everything else. I've burned out twice. Being able to carry something doesn't mean you're meant to carry it alone. Most of what this pays for is time. A few weeks of deep work on a manuscript. Hours of editing a children's book line by line. The writing behind every song. So the monthly need includes my living costs. That's what makes it possible to keep my coaching at a level that leaves room to write.

$6,000

a month, at minimum, covers:

  • Living expenses, so I can coach less and write more
  • Professional editing
  • Illustration and book design
  • Publishing and printing
  • Music tools, artwork and distribution
  • Translations

It doesn't take one big donor. It takes a circle of people.

  • 12 people at $500 a month
  • or 60 people at $100 a month
  • or 120 people at $50 a month

Every gift moves it closer.

Monthly

Monthly support is what makes this sustainable. When I know what's coming in, I can decide how much coaching to take on, plan editing and production, and stop leaving books unfinished for another year because life got full.

Patron level

For those who can carry a bigger piece. A $500 or $1,000 monthly gift covers a real share of each month's need.

Once

Any amount

A one-time gift can move a specific project through its next stage, like the next translation of God Speaks Wealth or the next album. Every one is received with real gratitude.

If you'd like a specific amount that's not stated here, please reach out to me at hello@tehillaluttig.com and I can get you a personalized link. Thank you.

See what you're helping make

Supporters get my monthly newsletter: manuscripts moving through editing, new Sophia Oakley songs as they're released, behind-the-scenes of the writing, and reflections on grace, relationships and everyday life. The finished chapter. The last illustration. The book going to print. Not because giving means you're owed anything. Because it's lovely to know you helped bring something into the world.

If giving isn't possible right now

You're still welcome here. Listen to the music. Share a book or a song with someone who needs it. Share this page. And if prayer is part of your life, I'd value that too. I don't want a page about grace to become one more place where anyone has to do something to belong.

Help write the next chapter

There are manuscripts on my computer I can't wait to see become books, songs waiting to be heard, and stories I want children to grow up with. If something I've written or sung has helped you see yourself, someone else or God a little differently, perhaps you'd like to help make more of that possible. One book. One song. One reader at a time.
With love and gratitude, Tehilla
